Program
The program includes invited talks and tutorials by leading experts in the field, which are complemented by hands-on sessions, exercises and student projects. The main themes are “Introduction to Semantic Web”, “Ontologies and Ontology Engineering” and “Semantic Web Services”, all of which are presented both from a theoretical and from a practical point of view. Throughout the school, emphasis is also given to real world applications.
Module “Introduction to Semantic Web”: This module gives an overview of the core concepts underlying the Semantic Web, of the state of the art in the field and the current directions of research and development. It covers also an overview of tools and languages used to develop semantic systems. The module includes a lecture unit followed by a tutorial, a hands-on session and exercises in which the students get familiar with common methods and tools used on the Semantic Web.
Module “Ontologies and Ontology Engineering”: The goal of this module is to teach students to build and manage ontologies and to formalize conceptual models using Semantic Web standard languages such as OWL. The module is divided into a lecture unit introducing ontology engineering as a discipline describing methodologies and methods supporting particular phases in an ontology life cycle (particularly ontology matching), followed by tutorials, hands-on sessions and exercises on Fridayontology modeling, and languages and reasoning, respectively.
Module “Semantic Web Services”: Web Services are one of the main application areas of Semantic Web, heavily driven by the industries. After giving an overview of the field, we will concentrate on the work currently carried on under the umbrella of the Web Service Modeling Ontology (WSMO) working group. The module will thus cover the Web Service Modeling Ontology (WSMO), the Web Service Modeling Language (WSML), and the Web Service Execution Environment (WSMX). It is divided into a lecture unit, a tutorial unit on WSMT and a hands-on and exercises.
The technical program of the school will be complemented by a suite of networking activities, which are detailed below.
Networking activities
The karaoke evening on December, 11 will be organized at Big Echo Bar. Big Echo has over 20 years of experience and offers a great program to every karaoke fan. You can enjoy our evening with your companions in our own room with wonderful food and a lot of fun.
We will also organize an optional excursion on Friday, December, 12. The excursion will lead us to Ayutthaya. The Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya or Ayutthaya in short, is one of Thailand's historical and majestic highlights. Serving as the Thai capital for 417 years (1350 - 1767: Kingdom of Ayutthaya), it was once glorified as one of the biggest cities in Southeast Asia. During the 17th century, most foreign visitors to Ayutthaya, traders or diplomats alike, claimed Ayutthaya to be the most illustrious and glittering city that they had ever visited. The map of Ayutthaya published in 1691 by Simon de la Loubere in Du Royaume De Siam is proof of such recognition.

The Kingdom of Ayutthaya reached its apex in terms of sovereignty, military might, wealth, culture, and international commerce in the 16th century when the Kingdoms territory was extended far beyond present-day Laos, Cambodia, and Myanmar. Ayutthaya even had diplomatic relations with Louis XIV of France and was courted by Dutch, Portuguese, English, Chinese and Japanese merchants.
Visitors can explore and appreciate Thai history in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, which is situated only 86 kilometers north of Bangkok. Visitors to Ayutthaya can marvel at its grandeur reflected through numerous magnificent structures and ruins concentrated in and around the city island surrounded by Maenam Chao Phraya, Maenam Pa Sak and Maenam Lopburi.
More importantly, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Historical Park, an extensive historical site in the heart of Ayutthaya city, has been included in UNESCO's World Heritage list since 13 December, 1991.
